Mastercard | Vice President, Urban Tech Partnerships
As Vice President, Urban Tech Partnerships Mr. Alby Bocanegra is responsible for deepening and broadening Mastercard’s engagement with global city, industry, academia and NGO partners under the company’s City Possible framework.
Prior to joining Mastercard Alby was Interim Chief Technology Officer for the City of New York and co-founded the Cities Coalition for Digital Rights in partnership with UN-Habitat and the cities of Amsterdam and Barcelona. The growing coalition currently boasts a membership of 40 global cities.
Alby has delivered multiple innovative programs including the expansion of community-driven initiatives to solve local problems with academia and industry partners; ambitious, exploratory and ground-breaking projects to tackle urbanization through the Moonshots program; and the roll-out of universal broadband which created greater equity, digital literacy, privacy and security for all New Yorkers.
He began his public service career with the Department of Technology in the City and County of San Francisco where he designed a tech talent program to attract expertise from industry, generating capacity for the city to adopt a user-driven approach to the delivery of government services.
Prior to his public service Alby spent 10 years in academia, fostering new partnerships with cities, native tribes and governments. His final stint was at the University of Southern California where he focused on talent growth and served on Los Angeles Mayor Garcetti’s Veteran employment committee.
