Rafael Tuts
Raf Tuts is Director of the Global Solutions Division of UN-Habitat, based at its Headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya. He is responsible for the development of global normative guidelines, covering various dimensions of sustainable urbanization, and their application through global programmes.
Since joining UN-Habitat in 1995, he held leadership positions in the Localising Agenda 21 Programme, the Training and Capacity Building Branch, the Cities and Climate Change Initiative, the Urban Planning and Design Branch, and the Programme Division.
He coordinated UN-Habitat’s engagement in formulating the Sustainable Development Goals. He led an agency-wide global effort to study city responses to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2016, he was awarded the title of Honorary Professor at the Faculty of Engineering Science on the recommendation of the Department of Architecture, at his alma mater, the University of Leuven, Belgium.
