Biography

Kalpana Viswanath, a researcher and practitioner on gender inclusive urbanisation, is the founder and CEO of Safetipin, a social enterprise that uses data to advocate for safe and gender responsive urban systems. Safetipin has data in over 50 cities in India and globally. She spearheaded the Safe Delhi campaign in 2010 that was led by Jagori with UN Women and UN Habitat. She was the Program Director of Gender Inclusive Cities project awarded by UNTF. She has provided technical support to safe city programs in cities across the world. She was a member of AGGI (Advisory group on gender issues) at UN Habitat for 6 years. She is Board member of SLOCAT (a global network on sustainable mobility), the International Centre for the Prevention of Crime (ICPC), and the Chair of Jagori. She has published widely in newspapers, magazines and journals and co-edited a book on Building Gender Inclusive Cities.
