Biography

Emily Royall works at the intersection of urban planning, data and technology to build inclusive futures for cities. She is currently the Smart City Administrator at the Office of Innovation for the City of San Antonio. Formerly, Emily worked in Singapore at the smart cities think tank City Form Labs, the Massachusetts Office of Information Technology (MassIT), and was Data Director of the digitally-native newsroom “The San Antonio Report". She has several years of public sector experience in digital services, data governance, community engagement, and smart city strategy. Currently, Emily manages San Antonio’s data governance strategy, a multi-stakeholder smart city partnership, and supports special projects in Digital Inclusion and Internet of Things (IoT). She is also consulting UN-Habitat on a new flagship program, “People-Centered Smart Cities.” Across her portfolio, Emily strives deliver public services that maximize transparency, security, equity and accessibility for all. 

Emily holds a Masters in City Design & Development at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a B.S. in Neuroscience, and a B.A. in Plan II from the University of Texas at Austin.
