Summary

This event will be led by the Yemeni government with focus on the critical role of Housing, Land, and Property (HLP) rights in Yemen's urban recovery efforts within the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) framework.

Yemen's prolonged conflict has not only caused immense humanitarian suffering but has also deeply impacted its urban landscapes. Displacement, destruction, and instability have become defining features, necessitating a holistic approach to urban recovery. This event aims to shed light on how prioritizing HLP rights is essential for rebuilding communities and fostering sustainable development in Yemen.

The event will delve into the challenges and opportunities in integrating HLP considerations into Yemen's urban recovery strategies, highlighting the potential barriers and innovative solutions aligning with the principles of the Urban Recovery Framework (URF).

The efforts in Yemen to address urban recovery challenges, particularly regarding Housing, Land, and Property (HLP) rights, are a collaborative endeavor involving various stakeholders, including UN-Habitat, local government bodies, civil society organizations, and international partners. Through concerted efforts, stakeholders aim to navigate these challenges by integrating HLP considerations into urban development policies and practices. This event provides an opportunity to showcase collaborative initiatives and foster dialogue among stakeholders, facilitating the recognition, protection, and leveraging of HLP rights to promote sustainable urban recovery in Yemen and contribute to the achievement of the SDGs.
