The Brazilian government has created a National Secretariat for Peripheries. In this panel, its representatives will present the vigorous Brazilian informal settlement urbanization program, now with a new perspective: the new "Periferia Viva" program
This event arises from the start of the Brazilian government's pioneering initiative, the “Periferia Viva” program, which seeks to improve the urban-environmental conditions of Brazilian outskirts. The program aims to connect various national sectoral agendas and collaborate with local organizations and technical support teams. The panel's goal is to facilitate dialogue among different stakeholders involved in the program: Federal and Municipal Governments, Territorial Technical Support, and Network Facilitators. It intends to introduce a new governance methodology to governments and organizations, focusing on innovative policies for comprehensive slum urbanization, promoting social participation and territorial integration.
The primary aim of this event is to introduce a new, multi-level, cross-sectoral, and multi-institutional governance methodology for integrated urban-environmental action in Brazilian urban outskirts. We'll showcase tools and instruments for multi-level integration, new territorial arrangements, actor relationships, and more. Participants, representing governments, organizations, and international agencies, will engage in discussion and knowledge-sharing, pooling their expertise to validate and enhance intervention programs in peripheries.
