Summary

Looking ahead to the 2026 midpoint of the New Urban Agenda (NUA), the Executive Director of UN-Habitat/UN-Habitat will have a conversation with local and regional governments on the critical role of the NUA, how its implementation has been to date, and how to move forward with acceleration. They will share their insights from leading action for the NUA including with a focus on solutions and opportunities for scaling impact including for improved access to adequate housing and informal settlement and slum transformation. In particular, the session will examine, as central elements of the NUA, integrated urban and territorial planning and design and enhanced participatory multi-level governance for accelerating progress.

Objectives

1. Reflect on each city’s/region’s lessons and experiences in implementing the New Urban Agenda to inform and scale local action going forward
2. Share and consider local solutions and practices for increased access to adequate housing and informal settlements and slums transformation as a central enabler of the NUA
3. Consider collective actions and cooperation between cities/regions to accelerate the implementation of the New Urban Agenda
