Summary

The session aims at presenting Egypt’s National Initiative for Smart Green Projects (SGP Egypt) as an unparalleled practical approach to addressing climate change risks. During the session, SGP Egypt is going to offer valuable insights and lessons learned, enabling the international audience to adopt and implement a similar model in their respective countries in order to enhance climate action efforts and facilitate the transition to a sustainable green economy.

This session will spotlight the collaborative endeavours of SGP Egypt, fostering tailored synergies among government bodies, NGOs, international organizations, and the private sector. Together, they aim to localize sustainable development efforts, promoting green smart solutions that address sustainable urbanization challenges. The discussion will illuminate the enacted tools facilitating collaboration and advancing sustainable urban design, low-carbon transportation, building efficiency, circular economy practices, and social equity. The projects don't only present various tools and solutions, they also represent different segments as SGP Egypt has inclusive six categories with a dedicated category for women-related projects.

Moreover, it will showcase SGP’s winning projects across Egypt's 27 governorates and highlight the projects that offer innovative solutions to address sustainable urbanization. Recognizing the paramount importance of multi-level coordination in fostering sustainable and resilient communities nationwide, SGP persistently forges coalitions that advocate for smart green solutions tackling climate challenges.

Additionally, the session will delve into how SGP supports green urbanization, emphasizing its commitment to engaging all segments of society in climate action. By establishing a network of stakeholders, SGP endeavours to create a robust support system ensuring the effective implementation of green smart solutions at the local community level.

The session shall be in the form of a panel discussion while having representatives of the winning projects among the audience to touch on the solutions their projects have to offer and highlight their experience as winners of SGP Egypt as the moderator gives some of them the opportunity to make 2-minute interventions to elaborate on their sustainable urbanization solutions.

Objectives

● Present Egypt’s National Initiative for Smart Green
Projects as a unique successful model to be replicated in other countries around the world, as SGP Egypt boosts climate action through accelerating multi-level action in order to support the fulfilment of sustainable development and address climate change on local, national, regional, and international levels.
● Raise global recognition of the country’s commitment to
fostering tangible multi-level action for sustainable development and showcasing SGP as an unprecedented model that calls on all stakeholders to actively take part in climate action.
● Demonstrate a sustainable approach through the SGP’s efforts in addressing the
acceleration of Multi-level Action for smart sustainable urbanization
● Present the innovative solutions SGP winners offer for sustainable urbanization
● Widening SGP's network of active partners to support smart urbanization efforts, accelerate the transition to green economy, and further boost climate action in Egypt.
