Summary

Initiated by Shanghai University and supported by UN-Habitat, the journal Urban Regeneration focuses on original interdisciplinary research in the digital age. It publishes articles on many aspects of urban and rural regeneration practices, methods, governance, and research. It distinguishes itself in providing an interdisciplinary platform for the exchange of ideas and information among scholars, practitioners, policymakers, and analysts from all disciplines.
The primary aims of the journal are to encourage and promote interdisciplinary studies on exploring urban regeneration, including cooperation among urban planning, sociology, computation, arts, management and beyond. It engages in debates and reflections of effective and ineffective planning policies; and the transferred knowledge of different regions and contexts in both the developed and the developing world.
The journal launch event at WUF12, led by Shanghai Institute of Urban Regeneration and Sustainability at Shanghai University, focuses on urban and rural regeneration amidst accelerating global urbanization. It serves as a platform for exploring innovative strategies, drawing on the university's expertise in urban studies and sustainable development. Attendees can expect diverse perspectives that bridge theory and practice, offering tangible solutions. By showcasing successful case studies and interdisciplinary methodologies, particularly from the Global South, the event highlights regeneration's transformative potential in strengthening urban-rural linkages. It emphasizes the interconnectedness of urban and rural environments, fostering economic growth, social cohesion, and environmental resilience. Ultimately, this dynamic launch event drives the global conversation on sustainable urban and rural development. Interactive elements, such as Q&A sessions and panel discussions will encourage active participation and engagement from the audience.
