Summary

Around the world, local governments, communities, and urban leaders are implementing innovative strategies to ensure cities are places for all, supporting sustainable growth and improved livelihoods. From digital innovation to community-driven climate action, many cities are leading the way in inclusive urban development. However, ensuring that a broad part of the population benefits from urban development, but as well in particular marginalized groups such as migrants, women, and people with disabilities, are heard in the urban planning process, remains a challenge.

This event will bring together Mayors and other key urban actors from cities in Africa and Latin America to share inspiring stories on how they are pioneering participatory planning methods. The event offers a unique opportunity to engage with experts and local voices leading the way in participatory urban planning.

We invite you to join the conversation and be part of shaping more inclusive, sustainable urban futures. The event provides a platform to engage with experts and local leaders committed to shaping inclusive and sustainable urban futures.

Objectives

• Provide a platform for mayors, experts and other local voices to share best practices and experiences on innovative solutions for inclusive urban development across cities in different contexts and regions.
• Foster dialogue on participatory planning methods, lessons learnt, shortcomings and ways forward to ensure participatory planning processes are carried forward ad replicated.
• Discuss how participatory planning with and for urban communities is essential for equitable development, enhancing cities' resilience and strengthening their capacity to adapt, prevent, and respond to major challenges and shocks.
• Inspire cities to adopt, explore and collaborate for more equitable, resilient, and sustainable approaches to urban growth.
