The BiodiverCities by 2030 is a joint initiative of the World Economic Forum and the Alexander von Humboldt Institute, championed by the Government of Colombia. The new impetus to achieve BiodiverCities by 2030 is led by the CAF -Development Bank of Latin America and more than 50 City Mayors in Latin America and the Caribbean who have committed to mainstream biodiversity into urban development projects.

Summary

This event will bring together representatives from global, regional, national and sub-national organizations committed to achieve BiodiverCities by 2030. Special focus will be placed on City Mayors from Latin America and the Caribbean who will share how their cities are bringing nature at the core of urban development through different initiatives. Furthermore, session speakers will reflect on the best strategy to consolidate the newly promoted Network of BiodiverCities of Latin America and the Caribbean led by the CAF -Development Bank of Latin America.

  • To identify key enabling environments to achieve BiodiverCities in the context of Latin America and the Caribbean. 
  • To exchange ideas and proposals to make biodiversity protection compatible with urban economic growth and social inclusion.
  • To present experiences of Latin American and Caribbean cities that can turn into a reference for other cities, within our region and in other regions.
