Summary

Participants on the Build-A-Smart City training course will learn concepts of a smart and livable city and work together on a case in a process towards an inclusive people-centric livable city, where people across, gender, age, and socio-cultural groupings thrive and evolve.

Participants will:

  • Learn how to move from traditional Best Practices from the past and look for Next Practices to adapt to present and future challenges;
  • Identify different bottlenecks in moving from present planning practices to next practices in a specific case from South East Asia;
  • share own experiences and identify how and when solutions may be adopted under different conditions.

The Build-A-Smart City training course will advance sustainable urban development objectives in the cities by identifying sustainable solutions for livable cities and means to implement solutions under different ecological, economic, social, and cultural conditions. Participants on our short Build-A-Smart City training course may be city planners, city officials, policymakers, and offices responsible for city service delivery and management. Other participants may be involved in developing smart cities, such as private sector service providers, academia involved in researching new approaches and ideas, and Non-governmental organizations.

Objectives

The objectives of our training session are to: • Introduce the concept of a smart and livable city; • Introduce and discuss why digital solutions need to be human-centric and need to focus on the concept of Next Practice as opposed to Best Practice; • Share relevant technological results and lessons learned from the ASEAN Australia Smart City Trust Fund (AASCTF) projects currently being implemented by the Asian Develoment Bank (ADB) across South East Asia; • Share ideas and knowledge between participants from various cities and empower them to find human-centric smart city solutions.
